Dandelion Fritter Pancakes

Kids will love adding flowers to a breakfast favorite as they learn and explore an edible flower! Make up some delicious, golden dandelion pancakes to munch on.

What you’ll need:

  • Freshly picked dandelions - 1/2 cup - 1 cup of blossoms

  • Pancake mix or ingredients for pancakes

  • Bowl and spoon for mixing

  • Frying pan

  • Oil, butter or spray for cooking

  • Toppings: butter, maple syrup, agave syrup or honey, and jam

To do:

  1. Find a nice open space, free from pesticides and send the kiddos to collect lots of bright yellow dandelions (grownups are also allowed to join in the fun)!

  2. Pop the dandelion heads off with your fingers or scissors and give them a good rinse under cold water.

  3. Mix up some pancake batter using your favorite pancake mix, we like to add a little extra sprinkle of salt and sugar. If you’d like to make them from scratch a simple recipe like this will work well.

  4. Gently mix in the dandelion heads into the pancake batter.

  5. Heat your pan on medium heat and add some cooking oil or spray.

  6. Dollop out the pancake batter onto the hot frying pan, cooking till golden on each side.

  7. Serve with butter and toppings of your choice.
