Birdseed Hearts

Hang your birdseed hearts in the trees in your yard or around the neighborhood and enjoy seeing your animal neighbors enjoy their treats! These make a simple and sweet Valentine’s gift for friends.

What you’ll need:

  • Cardboard (shipping boxes will do the trick)

  • Large heart shaped cookie cutter

  • Scissors

  • Pencil or pen

  • Single hole puncher

  • String (be sure to use something safe for animals - no ribbon or plastic)

  • Nut Butter

  • Birdseed

  • Spoon for spreading

  • Wax or parchment paper

To do:

  1. Prep your work space by laying out a large sheet of wax or parchment paper.

  2. Start by tracing your heart cookie cutter onto the cardboard.

  3. Cut out the traced hearts and punch one hole at the top.

  4. Thread a piece of string through and tie to make a loop. Be sure it is large enough to slip onto a tree branch to hang.

  5. Spread the nut butter on one side of the heart then cover generously with bird seed.

  6. Repeat this on the other side of the heart.
