Marble Paintings

The kiddos will enjoy the magic of marble painting while creating beautiful prints to use for crafting, card giving, creative drawing prompts, collage making, etc. Be ready for a bit of messy play, especially if your children love a sensory experience! 

Tip: Keep some warm soapy water and wash clothes on hand for easy clean up.

 

What you’ll need:

  • Shaving cream - foam type, NOT gel - Barbasol or Gillette are good options 

  • Watercolor paper or cardstock

  • Liquid watercolors or food dye with water added

  • Droppers or paint brushes 

  • Craftsick, chopstick or something of the like

  • A piece of cardboard or something similar to use as a scraper 

  • A shallow container or dish

To do:

  1. Spray shaving cream into your dish then smooth the surface a bit with a spatula (or spoon, hands, etc).

  2. Use the dropper or paintbrush to transfer the liquid watercolor paint to the surface of the shaving cream.

  3. Use a craft stick or something similar to swirl the colors together to create a marbled effect. 

  4. Lay a piece of paper on the surface of the painted shaving cream.

  5. Gently lift up the paper off the shaving cream and scrape off the excess shaving cream with a piece of cardboard. 

  6. Set paper aside to dry and repeat with more prints!

You can make several prints each time you add paint to the shaving cream. And you can add more color to existing colored shaving cream. When you’re ready for a clean slate, you can either add a new layer of shaving cream to the top or scoop the colored shaving cream out and start fresh.
