Ants on a Log
This is a great activity to do outside on a hot summer day but equally as fun as an indoor activity. We love making up stories about our sea creatures and imagining we are underwater divers exploring the deep sea to rescue them!
Traditionally, you would make ants on a log with celery, peanut butter, and raisins. However, the kiddos (and you) can have a fun time mixing and matching any of the following combinations!
Having kids help prepare healthy snacks, not only encourages them to be more adventurous eaters but it can help develop fine motor skills (spreading the filling and placing toppings), math skills (counting how many “ants” are on the “log”), language skills (naming ingredients) and so much more.
Vehicle:
Celery, carrots, cucumber slices or lengthwise, apple sliced into rounds
Filling:
Cream cheese (veggie and strawberry flavored are great options), hummus, yogurt, tzatziki, cottage cheese, ranch or blue cheese dressing, guacamole, spreadable cheese such as pimento, nut or seed butters
Topping:
Any type of dried fruit or jam, seeds or nuts, diced fresh fruit or veggies, olives, peas/corn, canned beans, even goldfish crackers have been requested in our house!
