Paper Pumpkins

What you’ll need:

  • Brown paper bag (or any paper you’d like to use)

  • Manila file folder or other sturdy paper/cardboard

  • Scissors

  • Pencil

  • Paint (orange, yellow and black are fitting but feel free to get creative!)

  • Sponges

  • Old newspaper or tissue paper for stuffing

  • Stapler or hole punch with yarn

  • Brown and green construction paper

  • Glue

To do:

  1. Cut up an old paper shopping bag so it’s flat.

  2. Make a pumpkin tracer by drawing a large pumpkin on an old manila file folder or other sturdy paper and cut it out. (Make sure it’s symmetrical. This will make it much easier when assembling the pumpkin.)

  3. Help your child trace two pumpkins (for the front and back) on the brown paper bag. Cut out the pumpkins.

  4. Now it’s time to paint! Cover the painting space with some newspaper to protect the table. Sponge paint the pumpkins however you like.

  5. Set the pumpkins aside to dry.

  6. Once the pumpkins are dry, it’s time to stuff them! First, you’ll want to take the front and back of your pumpkins and secure them together, leaving a small hole to stuff. You can secure them by either stapling around the pumpkin’s edge or punching holes and lace yarn around the pumpkin’s sides.

  7. Stuff your pumpkins through the little hole you left.

  8. Once you’re done stuffing your pumpkin, close the hole either by stapling it or finishing the lacing around the edge.

  9. Cut out a brown stem and green leaf or vine from your construction paper and glue them to your pumpkin. You’re finished!
