Rainbow Windsock

(Courtesy of I Heart Crafty Things)

Children will love making this colorful rainbow windsock craft to celebrate these windy spring days. It’s a perfect craft to pair with a book about rainbows, weather or spring. After making these colorful rainbow windsocks, hang them up from the ceiling to display at home, or under a covered front porch. Kids will love watching their windsocks and rainbow streamers spin around in the breeze.

What you’ll need:

  • blue cardstock paper or heavy construction paper

  • white paint

  • clothespin and large pom-poms to make your “puffy paintbrush”

  • crepe paper (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple)

  • scissors

  • glue stick

  • stapler

To Make:

  1. Start by attaching a large pom-pom to a clothespin to use it for a paintbrush. Simply open the clothespin, place the pom-pom inside the opening and then close the clothespin onto the pom-pom.

  2. Pour some white paint onto a small plate. Dab the pom-pom brush into the white paint and then onto your light blue cardstock paper to start making fluffy white clouds.

  3. Continue painting several fluffy clouds all over your paper. When finished, set aside your paper to allow the paint to dry completely.

  4. Cut pieces of crepe paper about 18-24 inches in length in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

  5. Turn your cloud painted paper face down. Use a glue stick to add glue at the bottom of the cloud paper and glue all six pieces of crepe paper along the bottom of your light blue cardstock in a rainbow pattern.

  6. Bend your rainbow windsock craft into a cylinder shape, connecting the ends together. Staple or tape the ends together to secure them.

  7. Cut a length of cardstock for a windsock handle and attach it to the inside of the top of the windsock with staples or tape.
