Chalk Paint

Versatile, fun and easy clean-up - chalk is one of my go-to’s for outdoor fun. The kids can grate it, smash it, dunk it in water, color with it on anything - nothing a good hosing off can’t tackle! This homemade Chalk Paint recipe is a fun sensory alternative!

You need:

  • Food coloring or liquid watercolors - washable is best!

  • Cornstarch

  • Water

  • Containers for mixing and paintbrushes

To make:

  1. To start out, know that the ratio of cornstarch to water is typically 1:1. The more cornstarch you add, the thicker the paint will be.

  2. Fill up your jars with water and add a few drops of color into each jar.

  3. Mix in your cornstarch. It can settle at the bottom so be sure to mix well!

  4. Grab your brushes and hit the sidewalks!

Extra fun:

  • Pour the chalk paint into spray or squirt bottles to use.

  • Paint hopscotch or obstacle courses for the kids to follow.

  • Paint scooter or bike wheels with the paint to make tracks while riding.

  • Add some extra jars or bowls and painting tools for potion making and mixing.

NOTE: This Chalk Paint rinses off well with a spray of the hose or a rain shower, however the coloring may stain clothing or skin depending on what type you use.
