Contact Paper Bookmarks

Every kiddo needs a good bookmark (or 2 or 3!) for their stack of summer reading books. These contact paper bookmarks can be made with anything from stickers to tissue paper or even pressed dried flowers.

What you’ll need:

  • Contact paper

  • Items to decorate the bookmark such as stickers, sequins, tissue paper, pressed flowers, etc.

  • Scissors

  • Hole-punch

  • Embroidery thread, ribbon or yarn

  • Painter or masking tape

To do:

  1. Cut out strips from the contact paper about 1.5″ wide x 6″ long. You will need two strips for each bookmark you plan to make.

  2. Peel the backing layer from one of the strips. And place it on the table sticky side up.  (Tip: Use a bit of painter’s tape to help adhere it sticky-side up on the table so it doesn’t move around while your child goes to town sticking all sorts of things to the surface.)

  3. Decorate the sticky side of the contact paper.

  4. Once they are complete, remove the painter’s tape.

  5. Peel the backing from another strip and place the sticky sides together to press everything between the layers.

  6. Trim around all the edges as necessary to remove any sticky sides which are not lined up.

  7. Punch a hole at the top and cut a piece of yarn or ribbon about 2-3″ long. Fold the ribbon in half and feed the ends through the hole to loop through, pulling snug.
