Hot Cocoa Mug Cake

A great winter snack that's easy for parents to make with kids is Hot Cocoa Mug Cakes. It's a fun, cozy treat that combines the warmth of hot chocolate with the excitement of baking, and it's simple enough for young kids to help with.

You'll Need:

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 4 tbsp sugar

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 1/8 tsp baking powder

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 3 tbsp milk

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter)

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • Chocolate chips, mini marshmallows or whipped cream (optional, but fun for topping)

To Make:

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In a microwave-safe mug, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
Add wet ingredients: Stir in milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  2. (Optional) Add chocolate chips or marshmallows: For extra fun, you can add a few mini chocolate chips or marshmallows into the batter.

  3. Microwave: Microwave the mug on high for 1 minute and 30 seconds (or until the cake has risen and is firm to the touch).

  4. Top and serve: Add marshmallows and microwave for an additional 10-15 seconds to melt them. You can also drizzle with chocolate syrup or whipped cream if desired.
